Pakistan's media industry was one of the first sectors to face MeToo allegations. Prominent journalists and TV personalities were named. The industry's response revealed how institutions protect powerful men.
The accounts that emerged shared a structure: men in positions of editorial power who used career advancement as leverage. Women who complained were transferred, sidelined, or pushed out. HR departments existed to protect the institution, not the employee.
Some named individuals were removed from on-air roles temporarily. Some returned. The underlying power structure — male editorial leadership, female on-air presenters — largely persisted. PEMRA's harassment guidelines were updated. Enforcement remains minimal.
On Zinaaa, the person with power is the woman — she initiates, she rates, she blocks. There is no career leverage. There is no institutional protection for bad actors. The rating system removes the ability to hide bad behaviour behind institutional cover.
